Tyne and Wear Metropolitan Fire Brigade

This Brigade was formed in 1974 with the amalgamation of Newcastle & Gateshead, Sunderland ,South Shields, together with parts of Durham and Northumberland Fire Brigades. This collection will show various appliances from all of these, from my own photos, and colour slides that I hold the copyright to. hope you enjoy them.

This is the well known AEC Regent three/Merrweather PE as preserved by Mr Pearson. it's seen on the 2006 Tyne Tees Run at Bents Park South Shields, the Machines home town.

This is MCU723 outside its's home Station in Kepple Street. not sure of the exact date but it's post 75, because of the Dennis F type next to it. This slide came from a 10p box of various Bus Slides!

GCU377 is a 1962 AEC Marquis ET/CU new to South Shields, it was withdrawn in 1982 and subsequently scrapped shortly after.

CFT801D was new to Tynemouth Fire Brigade, and is also now preserved. it is seen at the Chester le Street stopping point half way along  the Tyne Tees Rally in 1994.

FT7215 is a 1951 Dennis F12 wheeled escape which was new to Tynemouth. it is seen here in 1990, at Gypsy Green Stadium in South Shields, the original terminus of the Tyne Tees Run.

This is one of my favourite NE fire appliances, it was new in 1965 to Newcastle & Gateshead joint fire brigade, and was originally in the Marroon and red livery of that brigade. it is seen here at Preston Park in the middle 90's.

PFT117L was the last new machine to Tynemouth Fire Brigade, it worked at the Stella Power Station after withdrawl, and is seen here restored to Tynemouth livery at Bents Park South Shields in 2006.

This is EBB304, a 1936 Leyland Wheeled Escape, it was one of three new that year, Two have been preserved, this one is seen at Preston Park in 2006.

Volvo FL6/Excalibur's were pretty much the standard fare in the 90's, this one however is with the young firefighters, and is seen at Preston Park 2006.

This is a wonderfull beast! it's a control unit on a Dennis Dominator Bus Chassis. It was withdrawn in 2005, and is now preserved. it is seen here at Preston Park in 2006.

This is Tyne and Wears old Salvage Tender seen at Wallsend (Hadrian Road) in 1988, at an open day. based at Tynemouth, it was replaced around 1993, by L184VTN  a Volvo, and I last saw this in a yard next to the A1 near Leeds around September 1998, where it was in use carrying pallets. The same yard had three ex Army AEC Matador wagons.

I believe RTN144S is now to be preserved in Cambridgeshire. It is good to see it recieve a new home after a lengthy stay on Gateshead's Quayside.

This former Sunderland Dennis F12 used to live at the Sunderland Aircraft Museum. unfortunately it was broken up for spares for the preserved Tynemouth example.
