In the late 80's Thornaby Depot had several class 20's with local interest names, here 20156 named HMS Endeavour (Captain Cook's ship) stands on one of the shed roads in 1988. Despite having a preference for BR blue, I did like these,(and the named 37's). |
One of two class 37's which used to follow me around, (the other being 37009) has made it into preservation! 37003 (and wonderfully in BR blue) is seen on the Wenslydale Railway in the company of a class 101 DMU during 2005. |
A Deltic (55019) Just like the old days, in BR blue, at Newcastle Central in 1998 (I think) Unfortunately, it has been disfigured by that hideous orange band at cab roof level. but it's lovely to see a Deltic on the ECML again. These superbly impressive Locomotives always (to me at least) looked best in BR blue. |
This is one of my few attempts at Night views. It's come out quite well, and I wish I had taken more Nightime shots. This is 20119 at Thornaby Depot in 1989. |
Whilst not of North East origin, at least it's based here. The NRM's wonderfull class 84 (84001) was until recently, preserved in BR blue. Here it is in 1992 convieniantly parked next to the car park. |
31 264 on the Thornaby scrap line in the late 80's. I could never understand why they were called 'Brians'. |
45041 The Royal Tank regiment, spent several years semi derilict at Thornaby towards the end of the 80's. It was there long after the Peaks had dissappeared from the main line. I understand it is now in preservation. This one, and 45060 'Sherwood Forester' were my two favourite Peaks. |
46010 at Gateshead on 8th July 1984. |
Whilst not as imposing as the mighty Deltics, the Peaks weren't unattractive. This view shows the imposing front end off quite nicely. |
20096 at Thornaby in the late 80's. |
The Loco carried the later painted style nameplate for it's last years in service, suprisingly this was stayed relatively intact whilst on the scrap line. |
