Teesside in Postcards.
11th January 2009

One of my (many) interests is collecting Postcards, particularly those from the NE. I have a small collection of them which I have collected over the years. They are mainly scenic views, with buses being in the minority. However some do feature local transport close enough to identify the vehicles clearly.
I once rung up one of the Manufacturers with an enquiry regarding the negatives, to be told that 'they were thrown away' !! This is the problem with entrusting important Historical material to commercial companies. Anyway, hope you enjoy whats here, this collection will be added to over time.

This was obtained from my local post office in Billingham about 10 years ago now. It shows Middlesbrough Town Hall 1974. This date can be confirmed because of the Green Stockton Horsebox working what is probably a service 37. In the far background can be seen two Turquoise double deckers, the nearer of which looks like a L500 type. This is a very nice postcard which is hard to get now.

This is an extremely rare view of Norton Green, in that it is one of the few to feature a Bus rather than a Tramcar! The bus is probably a Shorts bodied AEC Regent from the 1920's. This postcard was expensive, costing me fourteen pounds-but I had to have it!

This view of the Cleveland Centre dates from the De-regulation era. This can be proved by the prescence of the Renault Minibus in the traffic queue. also visible are Bristol LH's from United and TMS. both operators who gave Transit severe competion at the time.
